Summertime fun

We have been keeping our weekends filled up with activities. I haven't posted in a couple weeks , but we are back home and I have some free time, so I thought I'd share some of our latest pictures.

Two weekends ago we drove up to visit my friend Bonnie. Her and her husband run a ranch just outside Zion National Park. Not a cattle ranch, but a sort of family retreat. We camped there for the night after enjoying some canoeing on one of the ponds, visiting the chicken coop to check for fresh eggs, playing on the playground, trying to teach the kids to play ping pong, and making s'mores over a camp fire. Yum. The next morning we went on a quick 4 wheeling trip up in the hills and saw some jack rabbits and squirrels. It was a fun little trip, but the highlight of the whole time (for the kids at least) was the batch of newborn puppies that Bonnie's dog had 3 weeks earlier. There were only 3 pups, but that's one for each of my kids and you can bet those babies were in their arms every chance they got. Finally the mama dog had it with us and we had to try to keep the kids away. Thanks Bonnie and Benton for a great time up there.

The day after we got back from that, we drove down to Las Vegas to watch the new Batman movie at the Palm's IMAX theater. I'd never been to an IMAX before so I didn't know what to expect and I gotta tell you I was way impressed. I loved the movie and it was absolutely incredible watching it the way we did. Heath Ledger was seriously creepy as the Joker. I highly recommend watching The Dark Knight like that if you get the chance. The scene below was AWESOME! Thanks Tom for being a wonderful Papa and watching the kids all day so we could get out and have some fun. We love you!

Then we celebrated Pioneer Day this past week. The 24th of July is a state holiday in Utah because it is the day that the pioneers arrived at the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. There are celebrations all over the state, including parades, fireworks and rodeos. Our church stake hosted a "pioneer town" and dinner celebration. It started out with a kid's parade, which we took part in. The kids all got dressed up as pioneers, except Sadie, who made do as an Indian papoose. :) Then we went around the town.

There was a Blacksmith's shop where they shaped horseshoe nails into "prairie diamond" rings for each of the kids. There was face painting, target shooting, sack races, wagon rides and other games and booths. Then a dinner of roast beef, baked beans and rolls. We didn't stay for the fireworks, but we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Click to get a better view. It was impossible to get a good picture of all three together, but they were sure cute while I tried.
This one's my favorite though.

HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!

It was so much fun to chat with you at Walmart the other day. So what is the decision... are you staying in southern Utah? Your family is beautiful!

I hardly recognize Sadie! I need to look at blogs more often...:) She is gorgeous! and where did all that long blonde hair come from? Emeri is still struggling to grow any hair in the front. Oh well. :) Looks like you guys are doing great and having a fun summer. Aren't puppies the best? I can't wait to have a dog some day,but need a house first!! I hope you are enjoying yours. But know that you are still missed here in Switzerland by us, even if I am a slacker at checking blogs! Maybe we'll run into you guys at Christmas down there or in Salt Lake. Take care! Rach
